Dr Rod Kefford AM

DR ROD KEFFORD grew up in Eastwood where he and his family were active in the life of the Lakeside Road Uniting Church.

After graduating from Sydney University, he joined the staff of Barker College in Hornsby as an English and History teacher.  Following five years as Head of English at The King’s School, he was appointed Headmaster of Wesley College in Perth in 1984, and then returned to Sydney in 1996 as Headmaster of Barker College, where he served until he retired in December last year.

Rod has made a significant contribution to the professional learning and development of teachers, especially young teachers, and was the inaugural Chairman of the Independent Schools’ Teacher Accreditation Authority, serving in that role from 2007 – 2012.

Rod was admitted as a Member in the Order of Australia in 2008 in recognition of his leadership and service in primary and secondary education across Australia, and was made a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators in 1991.  He was recently appointed to the Australian Museum Trust as a Trustee.

Rod and his wife Margaret have four children and six grandchildren.
